ABILENE, Texas – A fast start led to the first win of the season for the Texas A&M University-Victoria women's soccer team.
The Jaguars took the lead in the 11th minute on a goal from junior Ayloni Garcia and never looked back en route to a 1-0 road win over McMurry University at Wilford Moore Stadium.
It was the first-career goal for the UTRGV transfer and McAllen native. She set the tone for the Jaguars' offense, having four shots on goal of the team's six.
Six different players had shots for A&M-Victoria (1-1-1) as they outshot the Warhawks (1-2) 9-8. Miriam Ballart and Kaitlyn McCarty each had a shot on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Jamie Noriega continued her run of form between the posts, making a season-high seven saves after making five saves in a 1-1 draw with Nelson University on Friday.
The win keeps A&M-Victoria a perfect 3-0 against McMurry in the all-time series.
The Jaguars return home next week to face Texas Wesleyan, on Thursday, and Concordia University-Texas, on Saturday.
