Jags picked 8th in RRAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll

WACO – Coming off a trip to the Red River Athletic Conference tournament and with a new head coach, the Texas A&M University-Victoria women's soccer program is ready to work.

On Thursday, the RRAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll and the Jaguars (11-6, 8-5 in RRAC) were picked to finish eighth.

"We're proud to represent A&M-Victoria, and are committed to working together and competing for one another," said first-year head coach Kimberly Uetrecht. "With that unity, we're confident success will follow."

The Jaguars return 2024 RRAC All-Freshman Team selection Yuvier Borjas, who appeared in all 17 matches last year with 12 starts on the back line.

Senior Rosa Reyes, who has played in 40 total matches in her career, is back for her final season. She appeared in 17 matches with 16 starts last season, tallying an assist.

But A&M-Victoria also bolstered its attack after losing Kyleigh Spree-Kolos (14 goals) and Estelle Flanagan (8 goals, 4 assists) by adding UTRGV transfer Ayloni Garcia.

The Mission native appeared in 21 matches over two seasons with the Vaqueros, including a season-high 13 as a sophomore last year. During her high school career, Garcia set a school record with 94 goals over two seasons at McAllen Rowe.

This year will also mark a return to the six-team conference tournament format with the top two teams in the regular season standings receiving byes to the semifinals. Seeds three and four will host the fifth and sixth-seeded teams Nov. 7-8 in the tournament's quarterfinals.

The semifinals and championship will be held at Judy Kelley Morgan Field at Texas A&M-Texarkana Nov. 12-14.

The Jaguars open the season on Aug. 30 at home against Oklahoma City University.
