A&M-Victoria’s Boonsrirat, Sirisawat sweep RRAC Golfer of the Week honors
WACO – It was a clean sweep of the Red River Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week awards for the Texas A&M University-Victoria golf teams this week.
On Tuesday, the RRAC announced Lucky Boonsrirat and Philasinee Sirisawat, better known as Sky, as it's Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, respectively.
It's the second time this season an A&M-Victoria men's golfer took home the weekly honor after Paul Chopin took home the year's first award last week. This the first weekly honor of the year on the women's side.
"Sky has been a great asset to the women's program with adjusting and learning quickly as a freshman," said head coach Alex Acosta. "She has a bright future in the program and conference. I'm excited to continue to coach her and watch her and our women's program grow. Lucky has worked really hard to start off the year. I'm proud to see his work get rewarded and know he can be a big contributor to our men's program."
Sirisawat was the leader for the Jaguars' at the Jacksonville College Invitational last week, finishing T-15 with a two-day total of 169.
It was the first career Top 15 finish for the freshman from Bangkok, Thailand.
"I'm really happy to be named Golfer of the Week," Sirisawat said. "It means a lot to me and shows our hard work as a team is paying off. I'm proud to be a part of this program."
It's the second time Boonsrirat has earned Golfer of the Week honors after winning it once in the spring last year.
Competing as an individual at the Jacksonville College Invitational, Boonsrirat finished T-16 after carding a three-round total of 77-73-71—221. The New Braunfels native played the final 40 holes at even-par, carding six of his seven birdies in the tournament.
"I'm grateful to be named Golfer of the Week," Boonsrirat said. "I'm looking forward to continuing to compete this season and help our team throughout the year."
The men are wrapping up play at University of the Southwest's Battling in the Desert while the women's next tournament is the Blinn College Fall Invitational Oct. 20-21.
