UHV’s Van der Wath, Bickelmann sweep Golfer of the Week again
WACO – For the second consecutive week, UHV's Joshua Van der Wath and Emmily Bickelmann swept the Red River Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week awards after posted strong finishes at the Texas Wesleyan Spring Invitational.
Bickelmann has won four of the five weekly awards and this is the fourth sweep of the weekly awards for the Jaguars.
"I'm extremely proud of both Josh and Emmily for continuing to work as hard as they are," said interim head coach Taylor Dedmen. "I'm excited to see them take this momentum into their respective conference tournaments coming up."
Van der Wath finished in a tie for 12th at the Texas Wesleyan Spring Invitational after shooting 71-72-73—216 at Squaw Creek Golf Course. The senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, carded 37 pars and six birdies in the 54-hole tournament.
This season, Van der Wath has an adjusted scoring average of 71.8 in 22 rounds with two wins and four Top 5 finishes.
"I'm grateful to win this award again," Van der Wath said. "Two weeks in a row shows I'm playing good golf. Now, I just need to work on fine tuning it over the next couple of weeks for the conference tournament."
Last week in Fort Worth marked the sixth Top 10 finish of the season for Bickelmann.
The senior from Weisbaden, Germany, used a season-best final round to go 77-84-74—234 to finish in a tie for ninth. She had four birdies and only three holes worse than bogey in the 54-hole tournament.
"I'm thankful to receive this award again," Bickelmann said. "This shows the hard work is paying off. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the conference tournament."
The women head to Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri, for the Continental Athletic Conference tournament April 28-29. The men go for their fifth straight conference championship at the RRAC tournament at The Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio on May 5-6.
