UHV’s Bickelmann, Van der Wath sweep RRAC Golfer of the Week honors
WACO – For the third time this season, UHV golf has swept the Red River Athletic Conference weekly awards.
On Tuesday, the RRAC announced UHV seniors Joshua Van der Wath and Emmily Bickelmann as its Golfers of the Week for the week of April 7-13. It's the third time Bickelmann has won the award this season and first time this year for Van der Wath, joining teammates Nathan Biais and Lucky Boonsrirat as Jaguars who have won the award.
"I'm proud of Josh and Emmily for the work they've put in and the drive they've shown to improve," said interim head coach Taylor Dedmen. "I can always count on them to battle for the team and push their teammates to reach their full potential."
Van der Wath delivered a masterful performance in a field primarily made up of NCAA Division II golfers at the St. Mary's Battle at Riverhill in Kerrville last week.
The senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, finished third after going 72-73-66—211 (-5). It was his third Top 3 finish this season and fourth tournament in which he finished under par. His final round 66 (-6) was his second-lowest round this season.
Van der Wath was tied for second in birdies made with 13, six of which came in the tournament's final round. He also carded a pair of eagles last week.
"I'm grateful to receive this award," Van der Wath said. "It's a great motivator to work hard and keep improving, especially with conference and nationals coming up."
Bickelmann tied for 11th place at the Blinn College Spring Invitational at the Brenham Country Club.
The senior from Weisbaden, Germany, shot rounds of 79-81 over two days on the par-72 track. Her opening round 79 marked her 10th consecutive round in the 70s. This season, she's posted five Top 10 finishes for the Jaguars.
"I'm grateful for this award," Bickelmann said. "This helps build momentum and gives an extra boost of motivation for conference."
Both teams are wrapping up play in the Texas Wesleyan Spring Invitational, which is their final tournament before competing in their respective conference tournaments.
