A&M-Victoria softball’s Carter named to NFCA All-Region Second Team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Alyssa Carter put together a career season for the Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team.
After that performance, the junior utility player landed a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA All-Region I Second Team, announced on Friday, May 22. Carter is one of 147 NAIA student-athletes recognized across six regions by the NFCA this year.
This is the third consecutive year A&M-Victoria has had a player recognized on the NFCA All-Region team.
"Alyssa had a truly special season and is incredibly deserving of NFCA All-Region recognition," said head coach and Interim Director of Athletics Lindsey Ortiz. "She led our program not only with her performance on the field, but with the consistency, toughness and leadership she brought every single day. She's the heart of our team, and I couldn't be more proud of her."
The Sugar Land native led the team in batting average (.420), hits (50), on-base percentage (.500), runs (38) and slugging percentage (.563) to help the Jaguars (27-18) to their 18th straight winning season. Her OBP ranked fourth among the Red River Athletic Conference.
She also posted career-highs in RBIs (29), stolen bases (14) and extra base hits (14).
In the field, Carter displayed her athleticism between left and center fields, third base and short stop by posting a .933 fielding percentage with 17 assists in 42 games and 41 starts.
Carter earned All-RRAC Honorable Mention as a utility player for the Jaguars and later landed a spot on the RRAC All-Tournament team after hitting .500 over three games at the conference tournament.
