A&M-Victoria softball's Morales earns RRAC Player of the Week nod
WACO – Angelina Morales has been riding a hot streak recently for the Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team.
The junior from Pasadena has hit safely in each of the last six games with a batting average of .571 and 13 RBIs during that time.
Morales' hitting streak got a big boost in three games last week as she went 8-for-11 at the plate with nine RBIs and three doubles to help the Jaguars (20-10, 11-4) sweep of University of the Southwest and extend their winning streak to six games.
After that performance, Morales earned Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, which were announced on Monday.
Morales is the fifth Jaguar recognized with the weekly award this season and third to win the offensive award, joining Alyssa Carter and Madison Carr. It's the second week in a row A&M-Victoria has been recognized with Madelyn Butler winning Pitcher of the Week last week.
Morales' red-hot week is just part of a stellar season at the plate.
This year, Morales leads the team in batting average (.430), hits (34), doubles (9) and RBIs (29). Her mark in RBIs ranks second among the RRAC while her doubles rank fourth and hits rank ninth.
The Jaguars are back at home Thursday and Friday to face No. 21 Texas A&M-Texarkana in a three-game set. Thursday's doubleheader at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m. while Friday's series finale is slated for 12 p.m.
