Game 2
Xavier (LA)
A&M-Victoria
Xavier (LA)
The Texas A&M University-Victoria softball team is excited to be back at home this week.
The Jaguars (14-10, 5-4) host Xavier University of Louisiana for a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, March 20, followed by a noon finale and Senior Day on Saturday.
A&M–Victoria enters the matchup aiming to halt a four-game slide, but the Jaguars return to a place where they've consistently performed their best.
Home, sweet home
The Jaguars haven't played at home since Feb. 28, enduring a challenging road stretch that included multiple games against ranked opponents.
Their return to Victoria comes at an ideal time. A&M–Victoria is 6–1 at home this season, hitting .419 and slugging .571 in those contests. Alyssa Carter and Cristela Trevino have enjoyed the home field advantage this season, hitting .476 and .556, respectively, at the Youth Sports Complex
The Jaguars have outscored opponents 61–23 at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex and have looked sharp in the circle as well, posting a 2.39 home ERA with no home runs allowed.
With nearly three weeks having passed since their last home appearance, the Jaguars are ready to reestablish the early-season momentum that set the tone for their strong start.
Senior Day
Saturday's game will serve as Senior Day, honoring four Jaguars who have each made meaningful, lasting impacts on the program: Sianna Miller, Daizie Fuentez, Kelsey Perez and Fayth Hoover.
Miller, an outfielder, has provided steady hitting and error-free defense this season.
Fuentez, the veteran presence at second base, has added key infield stability along with eight RBIs.
Perez, a versatile outfielder, enters the weekend hitting .333 and offering reliable defensive support.
Hoover, a defensive anchor in the outfield, has started 21 games and posted a perfect fielding percentage while contributing timely hitting.
Together, the quartet has helped guide the Jaguars to a pair of NAIA Tournament appearances and hope to make it three in a row.
Scouting Xavier
Xavier (La.) enters the series at 5–12 overall and 2-7 in Red River Athletic Conference play after navigating a challenging early schedule that included several high-powered opponents.
Xavier has shown the ability to generate offense in spurts but has had trouble sustaining momentum against higher-level competition. The Gold Nuggets' two RRAC wins came against Louisiana Christian, but they're currently on a four-game slide. They played No. 9 OLLU to a pair of one-run losses to close that series on Feb. 20-21
A&M–Victoria has historically dominated the matchup, holding a 7–1 all-time series lead, including a sweep last season.
