A&M-Victoria’s Gratton wins RRAC Men’s Golfer of the Week
WACO – Texas A&M University-Victoria men's golfer Brandon Gratton has had a stellar first semester with the program.
Now, the Edmonton, Alberta, native has the Red River Athletic Conference taking notice after winning RRAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Monday. He is the third Jaguar to win the award this season, joining Paul Chopin and Lucky Boonsrirat.
Gratton paced A&M-Victoria to a second-place finish at the Louisiana Christian Wildcat Invitational at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria last week.
The sophomore transfer from Morningside University shot rounds of 72-68-70—210 (-6) to finish third among a field primarily made of RRAC golfers. He was tied for first in Par 3 scoring with an average of 2.83 on the short holes. Gratton was T-6 in birdies at the tournament with 12 over the course of three rounds.
He had a bogey-free round to close out the tournament with a two-under par 70.
"It feels amazing because it's my first collegiate Golfer of the Week award," Gratton said. "It gives me confidence and it's exciting to see the work I've been putting in is starting to show. As well, finishing the fall with my first collegiate bogey-free round gets me motivated and ready for what our team can do in the spring."
This was the second Top 3 finish and third tournament under par for Gratton.
In 12 total rounds this season, he boasts an adjusted scoring average of 72.1 and an unweighted average of 70.4. Nine of his 12 rounds have been under par, including each of his first six rounds as a Jaguar.
"I'm really excited for Brandon to be named RRAC Golfer of the Week," said head coach Alex Acosta. "He's had an outstanding fall and earned every bit of success individually and leading us as a team. I'm excited to continue to build off the success and dial in on the off-season for Brandon and our guys to be ready to go in the spring."
Last week's tournament was the final one of the fall for the Jaguars. Their spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
