No. 7 Men’s Golf finishes third at Texas Intercollegiate
WESTWORTH VILLAGE – The No. 7-ranked UHV Men's Golf team turned in a strong result at its opening tournament on Tuesday.
The Jaguars (288-286-292—866) finished third at No. 3 Texas Wesleyan's Texas Intercollegiate held at Hawks Creek Golf Club thanks to a couple of under-par final rounds.
Paul Chopin kicked off his season with a Top 5 finish after rounds of 68-68-75—211 (-5) to finish T-4 and one shot off forcing a four-way tie for first place.
Reigning All-Americans Nathan Biais and Joshua Van der Wath closed the tournament strong, each shooting a one-under 71.
Biais closed the tournament in 7th (69-72-74—212, -4) thanks to three birdies and an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole. Van der Wath (73-73-71—217, +1) finished T-11 after a team-high five birdies in the final round.
Lucky Boonsrirat (80-73-75—228) finished T-31 while Edgar Hinojosa (78-74-80—232) finished T-37.
The host Rams claimed the tournament title after posting a three-day total of 844.
The Jaguars return to play Sept. 16-17 at the Waco River Classic.
