UHV’s Dakiche, Lerma sweep RRAC weekly awards
WACO – The recognition is rolling in for UHV golf's Enzo Dakiche and Mia Lerma.
On Tuesday, the Red River Athletic Conference named the Jaguar duo its Golfers of the Week for the week of Feb. 26-March 3.
"I couldn't be more proud of these two," said head coach Garrett Adair. "They've both worked hard this season and these awards recognize that. I'm looking forward to what they can do for us the rest of the season."
This is Lerma's second weekly honor with her first coming in April 2023 after her first career win. The senior from Mission shot a career-best one-under 71 at The Club at Colony Creek in the final round of the Claud Jacobs Invitational.
Lerma (80-71—151) finished third in the tournament and helped UHV shave 21 strokes in the final round to finish in a tie for second as a team with recent RRAC addition Rocky Mountain College.
"It's great to get Golfer of the Week at the beginning of the season," Lerma said. "I'm still working for more good rounds and am very excited to see what we're able to accomplish this season."
Dakiche is coming off his second career win at the collegiate level and first with the Jaguars after shooting a five-under 211 (66-72-73) at the Victoria Country Club during the Claud last week. His showing helped the No. 15-ranked Jaguars to a second place finish behind No. 9 Texas Wesleyan.
It's the second career weekly honor for the Paris, France, native with the first coming in October 2022 while at Wayland Baptist. The sophomore's opening-round 66 set a new career best for him in college.
"I'm pretty happy about being the conference Golfer of the Week," Dakiche said. "This honor goes along with a great win, which makes it even better."
The Jaguars are currently playing the final round of the Schreiner Shoot-Out at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville.
