Team Stats
The UHV baseball team completed its Red River Athletic Conference sweep of Xavier (La.) in dominant fashion.
The Jaguars swept Saturday's doubleheader 4-0 and 24-2 to take all three games from the Gold Rush. The 24 runs in Game 2 are the most by the Jaguars this season and one off the program record of 25. The two wins extended UHV's win streak to 10 games, marking the first time since 2015 the Jaguars have boasted a double-digit win streak.
Jonathan Jones continued his dominance on the mound, striking out 11 while allowing just two hits and a walk in a complete-game shutout to open up the doubleheader.
With the shutout, Jones' ERA dropped to 0.75. The 11 strikeouts are a season-high for the Manvel native – his previous season-high was 10 set in a 14-1 win over Texas College last Saturday.
UHV (19-2, 9-0) got RBIs from Juan Perez, Cristian Garcia and Hal Perez to take Game 1. Hal Perez delivered the biggest swing of Game 1 with a two-run home run – his fourth of the year – to cap a three-run fourth inning.
The Jaguars wasted no time in Game 2, plating seven runs on five hits and two errors. Hal Perez and DeeAndre Torres each had two-run singles in the first.
Garcia followed Perez's lead from Game 1 and hit his fourth homer of the year in the fourth inning of Game 2 as the Jaguars scored 16 unanswered runs to open the game. The Houston native and graduate transfer from Western Kentucky has now reached base in each of the first 21 games this season and leads the RRAC with a .532 average.
UHV had 13 different players notch an RBI in Game 2 with DeeAndre Torres, Kyle Barosh, Jean Michael Gonzalez, Cristian Garcia, Wyatt Smith, Hal Perez, Jackson Ulcak, Terry Burrel III, Rafael Gutierrez, Derick Morillo, Jackson Purcell, Alejandro Belo and Brady Thompson all driving in runs.
Julian Garcia improved to 4-0 on the mound for the Jaguars after five shutout innings in which he struck out nine batters while allowing just two hits.
Drew Bradbury, Ryan Rodriguez and Blake Rogers combined to close the game's final two innings in relief of Garcia.
UHV goes on the road Tuesday to face NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M before resuming conference play Friday and Saturday at Jarvis Christian.
