UHV's Parker named RRAC Pitcher of the Week
WACO – The accolades are coming in for UHV's Brady Parker after a historic Opening Day.
On Tuesday, the Red River Athletic Conference named Parker it's Pitcher of the Week in the first round of weekly awards after throwing a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Wiley University on Friday.
It's UHV's first weekly award this season after earning four weekly awards last year.
"I'm excited and honored to be recognized with this award," Parker said. "But I also owe credit to our team. They made some great plays to help us get the no-hitter. Throwing a no-hitter on Opening Day, there's no feeling like it. I can't wait to see what this team is going to do throughout the rest of the year."
Parker, a 2024 All-RRAC First Team selection, retired 21 of the 22 batters he faced on Friday – including the final 16 batters. The left-hander struck out 11 Wildcats as he worked his fastball velocity up to 95 MPH.
It's a strong start to his junior campaign after posting career bests in wins (8), strikeouts (77) and ERA (4.19) as a sophomore. Friday was also the second career complete game for the Victoria native.
"I'm excited for Brady to get recognized this week," said head coach Jonathan Stavinoha. "He worked hard all offseason to get ready for this year. I'm ready to see what all he accomplishes this season."
The Jaguars (3-0) return to action this week, hosting No. 13 Mid-America Christian University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday at Riverside Stadium. Following that twinbill, UHV will host No. 14 Central Methodist in a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
